Home composting is a fantastic way to reduce waste and produce nutrient-rich soil for your garden. However, to ensure your compost pile is healthy and productive, you need to monitor it regularly. That's where Monty Monitor comes in. In this blog post, we'll explore Monty’s three sensors, the temperature sensor, humidity sensor, organic gas sensor and Bluetooth chip.
Temperature Sensor
The temperature sensor is an essential component of Monty Monitor. It measures the temperature of your compost pile transmitting the data to Monty Mobile via Bluetooth. The ideal temperature for a compost pile is between 49°C and 71°C, as this range supports the growth of beneficial bacteria that break down organic matter. If the temperature falls outside of this range, you may need to adjust the moisture level or turn the pile to increase airflow.
Humidity Sensor
The humidity sensor measures the moisture level in your compost pile and sends the data to Monty Mobile using Bluetooth. The ideal moisture level for a compost pile is between 40 and 60 percent, as this range promotes decomposition without creating anaerobic conditions. If the humidity level is too high, you may need to turn the pile or add dry material to absorb excess moisture. If it's too low, you may need to add water.
Organic Gas Sensor
The organic gas sensor measures the concentration of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in your compost pile and sends the data to Monty Mobile for analysis. VOCs are gases that are produced during the decomposition process and can indicate the overall health of your compost pile. High levels of VOCs may indicate that the pile is too wet or not aerated enough. If you notice a high concentration of VOCs, you may need to adjust the moisture level or turn the pile to increase airflow.
Bluetooth Chip
The Bluetooth chip is the central component that receives data from the three sensors and sends it to your smartphone. With Monty Mobile, you can track the temperature, humidity, and organic gas concentration of your compost pile in real-time. Monty Mobile can also provide you with alerts and recommendations on how to optimise your compost pile based on the sensor data. With Monty Monitor, you can take the guesswork out of composting and ensure your pile is healthy and productive.
Monty Monitor can be a game-changer for home composters. The three sensors and Bluetooth chip work together with Monty Mobile to provide real-time data on temperature, humidity, and organic gas concentration, enabling you to monitor your compost pile's health and productivity. By using Monty Monitor, you can optimise your compost pile's conditions and achieve nutrient-rich soil for your garden.
